Raiders are hanging on

The Raiders managed a 26-18 upset over Parramatta today. Good defence and plenty of possession in the second half secured the Raiders’ win. However, they still remain in 9th position due to a negative points differential.

Both Todd Carney and David Howell, who stepped-up from Premier League, were outstanding. Jason Croker also deserves credit for both his captaincy and two tries scored. Without Simon Woolford at the helm, the Raiders were more disciplined and certaintly did not rack-up the penalties as seen in previous weeks.

Webcke’s tackle was a bit rough, agreed, but does not have a big history of foul play (unlike the Germ).

I guess the ref’s have to take this into account on the field at the time they blow a penalty.

Today’s Telegraph has a list of all the players charged with dangerous tackles this season. Most of them only got 2 weeks. Woolford received either the harshest penalty or second harshest. Shane Webcke should’ve been put on report for his spear tackle last weekend against the Storm.

Any news from Germ today? He was supposed to be appealing his suspension.

And the news this morning suggested that his ‘dismal’ record is to blame for the length of the suspension.

And while it’s being mentioned, WTF is all the damn AFL coverage this year? It seems every channel at any stage of the weekend is playing AFL! Every sports reel on all the commercial news starts with copious amounts of AFL! And I can’t see highlights from a raiders win? That’s shit.

Have the AFL paid for this extra coverage? I am Mexican by birth and I don’t mind the odd footy game, but for the love of god, let’s see some more League and Union! I don’t give a f*ck about a game that is being dominated by ‘ring-ins’.

They get a TV match every week Thumper. And trust me, they don’t play pretty football. Ch Nein is all about the ratings, and the Raiders don’t rate… (See Collingwood getting lots of Friday night football games, despite the fact they are crap)

Nathan Hindmarsh was just dirty he didn’t get a chance to stick it to brother Ian in what could be the last match they play against each other.

And so much for a crap team, they’ve certainly stamped their authority on some of the glamour clubs this season. Unfortunately Captain Woolford’s lack of leadership and discipline has really hampered their finals chances; and they have lost some pretty soft games.

Not crap at all when you also consider the Whistle Blowers’ usual dislike of the green machine which has also cost them a couple of games. Note the loss to Cronulla in Round 10 and Roosters in Round 12.

Glad to see them playing to their potential. However once again they were slighted by the media; As I watched sports tonight last night I saw highlights from all sorts of shit around the world, highlights of every AFL match and highlights of every other NRL match and only a result from the Raiders match. Is this to do with broadcast rights or do they really dislike the raiders?
