Roundabout at Lanyon shops

The ACT Government is implementing changes to the roundabout at the intersection of Tharwa Drive, Box Hill Avenue and Woodcock Drive next to Lanyon shops, with roadwork affecting the area tomorrow and on Wednesday.

The works will change traffic arrangements on the approach to the roundabout from Box Hill Avenue.

The right turn lane on Box Hill Avenue, previously used for through traffic and to turn right will be converted to right turn only. The traffic from the left lane will be able to move in all three directions (left and right to Tharwa Drive and through to Woodcock Drive).

New pavement arrows and advanced warning signs at all approaches to the roundabout will alert motorists and road users to the changes in traffic conditions.

The changes are expected to improve the capacity and reduce queues on Box Hill Avenue for traffic tuning right onto Tharwa Drive during peak hour.

The ACT Government has apologised in a statement for any inconvenience the works may cause.

The problem with using ground based signs is that when the traffic is busy you can’t see them.
Won’t belong before this causes a few accidents.

There are also countless intersections where these direction arrows are broken or have gone missing.
Some intersections used to have white lines that now just stop halfway.
