One of our nation’s finest songwriters, Fraser A Gorman, will be gracing the stage at Smith’s Alternative this Thursday. Comparisons to Bob Dylan come often for Gorman, but once you listen a little more deeply you’ll hear the small-town charm and coastal chill that’s entirely individual to this acclaimed singer-songwriter from Torquay. ‘Book Of Love’ from his 2015 debut album is the perfect place to start for the uninitiated.

The new, self-titled EP from Canberra’s own Charlotte & The Harlots brims with energy, taking nods from Nirvana, Grinspoon and Smashing Pumpkins. Its five songs scream past in less than 15 minutes, but cuts like the winding, breakneck ‘Down’ hint at a bright future for this band making fun, sophisticated rock music. Catch them live at Transit Bar this Friday, alongside The Differs, Babe Fiasco, Dalmacia, and Mimi The Desert Pearl.

Head into the suburbs for the unofficial Canberra music family gathering going down at the Mulgara Homestead on Friday night, with independent music heroes Amends and Jack R Reilly bringing their Spring Fling Tour to Canberra with support from Plastic Plants and Powder Blue.

Sadly, the light rail won’t help you get one suburb over to The Front if you’re keen to split your time and see Canberra’s most exciting new band Paint Store, alongside a mini-festival lineup dubbed Rock and Roll Baby.

Elsewhere, Amyl and the Sniffers will bring a healthy dose of chaos to Transit Bar on Saturday and English producer Riton, who was inescapable last year thanks to his huge collabs with singer Kah-Lo, will be found behind the decks at Mr Wolf on Friday night.
