Dropped by the Rose Cottage Markets on Saturday, hoping rather than expecting a small but bustling hive of locally produced goods nestled amongst the gardens of the Old Rose Inn.
The site has always had a chequered commercial history, never quite hitting the mark as a destination location and not really en route to anywhere. Businesses seem to come and go with regretful regularity. The Inn itself appeared to have some events on as there were a number of glossy people climbing out of their equally glossy cars, clutching presents.
Sadly the Market itself had been relegated across the road and there were few stalls and fewer customers. A speed circuit revealed stalls selling plants, jewelry, craft, knitted goods, honey and candles.
I fear that this will be another enterprise that will fold with as little fanfare as it started with.
