The ACT Government, through the Minister for Ageing, Katy Gallagher, has launched a photographic competition called “Life’s Reflections”.

It’s time for people to dust off their box brownies and Instamatics, and get a photo of their favourite old-person (60 years +) in the Canberra community.

The competition calls for entries in one of four subject categories:

1. Intergenerational — (2 or more generations)
2. Humorous Senior/s
3. Active Senior/s
4. Celebrating Diversity

According to the entry form, the challenge is to capture:

1. Images within a recreation/leisure context.
2. Photographs that provide positive imagery of older people eg: Facial expressions of adventure/challenge/freedom.
3. Explore a “new way of seeing” older people in tourism, sport, art, shopping etc.

A photo of an old person playing tennis, with a huge grin on their face, while wearing their underpants on their head, is a surefire winner.

The exhibition, and the category winners, will be announced during Seniors Week in March. Entries for the competition close on Wednesday 14 February.

An entry form is available from the events page on the ACT Office for Ageing website.

I’m not denying you might want to make changes to a submitted article, but I hadn’t actually finished writing it, before it was published. I shall adapt my posting method in the future.
