Spelling Mistake

By Mrshmellowman - 14 May 2009 31

I was walking past the Australia Post post-office in Dickson on the weekend and noticed a carpark that was reserved for official vehicles

BUT WAIT!!!

There is something wrong with the sign

I pondered.

Is it possible that the government would produce an official sign with the name of the country spelled incorrectly?

Spellcheck people – spell check!!!

What’s Your opinion?

Stupid Conspiracy Theory No. 1:

They weren’t misspelling Australia.

It’s Austria with an extra ‘l’ which is on step away from Österreich and a little man with a side parting/moustache coming over and taking leadership of our country.

Well there goes their A for spelling.

Judging by the look of the sign with its faded paint and slightly bent, it has been there for many years, probably more than 10.

So, has Australia Post lost a letter?

There was also a recent job advert in the newspaper where they wanted somebody with “laborer” experience.I don’t really understand why as most if not all signage/job adverts are prepared with a computer which have spell check programs.

American spell check programs by the look of it.

There are two yellow and black signs at the roadworks near Pialligo directing people to “Fairboirn Ave”. There was also a recent job advert in the newspaper where they wanted somebody with “laborer” experience. It’s just a sign (pardon the pun) of how sloppy society has become these days. I don’t really understand why as most if not all signage/job adverts are prepared with a computer which have spell check programs.

Must be due to the Global Finanicial Crisis.

Damn, those vowels do cost a bit. They’re always the first to go in a budget crisis.

More likely explanation I think is these signs were ordered in bulk by Australia Post. Check the back and you’ll likely see “Made in China”, hence the poor spelling.

Can someone legally be booked for parking in a zone with an incorrect sign?

Deckard 6:39 pm 14 May 09

Must be due to the Global Finanicial Crisis.

It’s a trap to get more fines paid by a govt owned corporation?

“But it’s Austrlia Post vehicles only! The sign is quiet clear, Mr Postie…”

trevar 6:28 pm 14 May 09

I wonder if the sign was made in Chna…

b2 6:16 pm 14 May 09

ha that’s fantastic.

GardeningGirl 5:57 pm 14 May 09

Oops lol!

G-Fresh 5:45 pm 14 May 09

I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.
