Spelling Mistake

By Mrshmellowman 14 May 2009 31

I was walking past the Australia Post post-office in Dickson on the weekend and noticed a carpark that was reserved for official vehicles

There is something wrong with the sign

I pondered.

Is it possible that the government would produce an official sign with the name of the country spelled incorrectly?

Spellcheck people – spell check!!!

Bad spelling in signage annoys and amuses me in equal measure. When I used to live in Melbourne, I frequently walked past a little independant grocer advertising “NODDLES”, which always made me giggle.

I think small Ls are banned from the Liberal Party.

Ha! So true Ant! So true…
Surely they could be hauled before Trade Practices for misleading advertising?

At the corners of the Comsuper building in Belconnen it has ‘enquires Building 3’. They also had one of those hanging signs at the entrance to the underground carpark saying ‘MINIMUM height 2.7 metres’. Mmmmm…. I think maximum somehow would be more useful.

I have somewhere in the depths of my computer a camera phone photograph of a sign posted in the National Library reading:

“The National Library of Australia no longer excepts magazines or posters.”

Bit of a worry coming out of such an institution.

It was a very, very small “L” Al.

So, has Australia Post lost a letter?

It’s catching – the ACT ALP issued a media release this week lambasting the “iberals”.

There are two yellow and black signs at the roadworks near Pialligo directing people to “Fairboirn Ave”. There was also a recent job advert in the newspaper where they wanted somebody with “laborer” experience. It’s just a sign (pardon the pun) of how sloppy society has become these days. I don’t really understand why as most if not all signage/job adverts are prepared with a computer which have spell check programs.

Yesterday’s Canberra Times had a huge heading of a full page article using the word RESPONSILBILITIES. Great proof reading.

I hope you didn’t buy the CT!!!!
