I was just reading over the shoulder in a Cafe while waiting for my coffee and the Daily Telegraph had an article about the Summernats being up for sale.
Is it definitely for real this time??
ED – From the DT article:
- Business consultant Vic Dawson revealed Mr Henry was in negotiations with a possible buyer…
Mr Dawson said the aim was to ensure the Summernats continued and remained in Canberra.
Mr Henry revealed on the Summernats website that one company “has first dibs” on ownership and that he hoped to stay on as a promoter.
Chic is selling the Business which is the Summernats and the goodwill (I know i’m going to get bagged using that term on this site) that comes with the event. When you run an event for your own, you tend to make a lot of lifestyle choices which may not show up to the average purchaser in the accounts, but there are certainly a business case to be made for the event
It’s pretty common knowledge Chic has the event for sale, and there are 2-3 parties interested in buying the event.
I’m looking forward to a nice, peaceful, quiet January from now on! I might even stay at home!
SHOW US YA TITS!
Let summernats die and replace it with a less bogan event (and a little more diversity in the cars shown would be nice too).

What a loss to teh Canberra community…..NOT!! It would be devasting to loose Chick banging on about how little support her gets from the ACT Government.
An event that will be happily not missed at all.
It kinda makes me wonder exactly what chicky is selling? I mean the infrastructure mostly belongs to EPIC, it looses money apparently, so he isn’t even selling a income stream. Sounds like the name is the only thing for sale?
Unless he has a future rental agreement with EPIC? Maybe someone can buy summergnats, then cancel it and hold a knitting festival on that week?

People keep saying the Summernats makes money for Canberra. For who, exactly? Who gets all this alleged money? The people whose daily lives are upset and disrupted? No!
As for being offended by the term “retard”, and then using the term “moron” to insult Dr Karl, are you aware that “moron” is actually the term for a class of mental retardation? I take it you are not offended by the use of “moron”, only “retard”.
What about Borat’s brother Bilo…?
Wolfie Retard was the bassist in English skatecore band The Stupids. If they played Summernats, I’d be there.
On your first point, I always seem to forget that if something is a revenue raiser then we are meant to be happy about, regardless of how many values they clash with.
Agree re use of words. although I think there is more wrong with the “In america where all the retards are” than just the work ‘retards’. Stereotyping much DrKarl?

First of all, Summernats is a revenue raiser for Canberra, regardless of how tasteless the event seems for some it still makes money for our city, After losing our cricket team & any chance of getting an AFL team I think it would be a prudent move to try and preserve these things as they make up the city we live in.
Secondly, derogatory use of the word “retard” offends me greatly. Mental retardation is a generalized disorder, characterized by subaverage cognitive functioning and deficits in two or more adaptive behaviors that onsets before the age of 18. A person with such a disability could not possibly be accurately attributed to the immature “Summernats” mentallity referred to in this post.
Please choose your words more carefully, moron.
Oh please, pretty please. Is Christmas Island too far?
I reckon Easter Island would be even better.
Try somewhere in America where all the retards are!!
Well, Chic might be free, but I bet his summernats are very expensive. Actually, he’s expensive too. Who would hire someone who claimed to be losing money every year? He needs to be paid off for his bargain basement money-losing summernats, patted on the head and shown the door.
The ACT govermint should buy teh summernats… and then flog them to Hay! Maybe they could donate them to Hay, as foreign aid.
Free to good home: One whinging event promoter and his possy of hoons.

Wouldn’t the motor cycle gangs be interested as part of their expansion in western Sydney.
I have heard that chick owes a fair bit of money around the place, I could be wrong, but that normally means there is something in it

I’ve heard the NRL are interested in getting involved as part of their ‘community outreach’ offensive.
Maybe street machine
