ActewAGL have circulated an irresistibly cute story about donating their used cable drums to the Malayan Sun Bears at the zoo:

Last week ActewAGL delivered five cable drums to be used as enrichment items that will provide physical and mental stimulation for the three sun bears – a male named Arataki, a female named Otay and her female cub Mary.

National Zoo and Aquarium Wildlife supervisor Bec Scott said, “The drums will be converted into enrichment items for our sun bears. We’ll hide food in them and the bears will have to spin the drums to get the food out.

“The smaller animals at the zoo are relatively easy to please, but it’s the bigger animals like the bears and big cats that need larger toys to keep their minds busy and encourage natural behaviour.”
