Teenager charged after fatal crash near Tumut on Sunday morning

A teenager has been charged with dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death after a fatal single-vehicle crash near Tumut on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to Wee Jasper Road at Bombowlee, in the Riverina region, just after 7:30 am (10 June), after reports a vehicle had left the road and hit an embankment.

A 17-year-old boy, who was driving, was uninjured while his passenger, a 40-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver was taken to Wagga Wagga Hospital for scans and mandatory testing.

Officers from Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The teenager was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasion death. His licence has been suspended.

He is due to appear at a Children’s Court on Monday 23 July 2018.

I was in Tumut on Sunday morning as the news was broken to some close friends of the deceased. Please take care folks – the grief for those left behind is not pretty.
