The accused driver behind the crash that allegedly killed tourism leader Jackie McKeown late last year has been issued two charges over her death.
Ms McKeown was walking along Bicentennial Drive in Jerrabomberra on the morning of 17 November 2024 when she was hit by a ute, NSW Police alleged.
Paramedics arrived and began CPR, but, tragically, the 48-year-old died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police said the alleged driver of the ute, a 54-year-old woman, suffered broken ribs and facial injuries.
She was taken to Canberra Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.
Police arrived, established a crime scene and seized the ute for forensic examination.
A police spokesperson said after extensive inquiries, the alleged driver was issued with a court attendance notice for two charges on Monday (13 January).
These were dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
“Her licence has been suspended,” the police spokesperson said.
The woman is scheduled to face Queanbeyan Local Court on 14 March.
Ms McKeown worked as the director of visitor services at the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre.
Her death was met by a huge outpouring of grief, including a tribute by VisitCanberra as well as members of the community who expressed their condolences on social media.
