In a move that will take some people back to their last school exams, the Department of Communications is in the process of having its staff reapply for their jobs.

According to The Canberra Times, an assessment centre has begun with most already completing an online critical thinking exercise and separate management and leadership profile. Later this month, they will participate in a half day analysis run by Clarius, which is expected to see a peak in the stress of the activity.

Those at EL2 level are the first to be tested and will be able to apply for their jobs in June, after the assessment centre process is complete.

It is believed that staff at other levels wanting to stay at the Department will be put through the process by September.

(This seems to me to be a pretty detailed process to keep the best people – not that it’s something I would want to go through, compared to the usual Voluntary Redundancy solution. Does anyone know if they offered Voluntary Redundancies first, and whether this is a second step given they didn’t get a high enough take-up?)
