In some ways the Santa Crawl Bar Crawl is like every other day of my life.
Drink, laugh, be foolish, chatter to pretty women who are scantily clad. It’s all no doubt leading to a sad and lonely grave but it feels like a good idea at the time.
So while it’s in full swing the crawl is basic good fun.
But it does have a tendency to the exceptional.
For without it why else would I have call to walk through a children’s playground swigging a beer dressed as Santa with a mob of parents swearing at me?
And then there is the moment when, having walked into town dressed as Santa, one sees another Santa and can finally be sure that this really is the right date and it isn’t all a horrendously embarrassing cockup.
So last night was 2009’s outing for one of Canberra’s weirdest and most lovable institutions.
The ladies quite possibly out-numbered the men and I only lasted for PJs, ICBM (cunningly diverting the Santa’s upstairs to check out their new really quite fabulous beer garden cum tiki bar), and Mooseheads.
Which are three bars I would rarely darken the doors of unless dressed as Santa.
There’s a slideshow below, and a special shout-out goes to the pictured table of RiotACT readers whom I really should have spent more time talking to (especially the blonde on the left who I could easily have developed a crush on).
Second Friday in December, mark it in your calendars if you’ve never been.
