The NCA have really put their thinking caps on this time.
They’ve announced that work has commenced on the thrillingly titled: “Humanities and Science Campus Square” which will extend between the National Library and Questacon.
- “The $7 million project will reduce the amount of vehicular traffic through the campus to create a better and safer experience for pedestrians and increase the number of trees in the area.
The works include the restoration of the National Library forecourt and fountain to rectify occupational health and safety issues. A single broad ramp rising to the National Library entrance will be constructed allowing improved access for all visitors.
They’re also promising to clean up the intersection of King Edward Terrace and Parkes Place as part of the process.

The poplars and fountains stay.

the NCA…
Is it a campus? Is it a square? Is it a square campus?
No, it’s a ‘campus square’.
Who came up with this ridiculously awkward name?
The title sucks ! The concept is uninspiring. Next…
They proposed this a few years ago and it got knocked on the head.
People wanted to retain the poplars, rather than putting in new tiny trees.
and they had some idea that reducing car parks would encourage people to walk to the National Library…..
oh and a broad ramp instead of the stairs?
for the repository of all our literary and historical data?
anyone else see a problem with this?
NPH drive in?
I won’t make an accurate comment till i see the artist’s impression. seems to me that the poplars, the statues and the dirt carpark will all be gone. and what will be in its place? more bus parks, a bbq area, a park and less car parks.
Hmm reducing the traffic to the parking areas. That will be a neat trick, especially since the portrait gallery will add new traffic.
