The messiest house in Canberra?

Over on YouTube one “amfbelco” has posted a Canberra tagged video of a house that almost defies belief.

Here’s the accompanying text:

“What you’re about to see may shock you, you might think you have a messy house, but I can assure you; you are seriously mistaken.

This house is just around the corner, it’s clean on the outside and a cleaner’s hell on inside. But worst of all there is a cat involved.”

Anyone have any ideas where this temple to slovenliness could be? I know it’s made me feel better about my housekeeping.

And hats-off to that collection of goon-bags!

Unconditional love regarding family and friends visiting Dilandach….on topic in relation to the rubbish or papers; I cannot see food garbage items that require disposing and who is to say that this room is not a store room where the residents are placing old electronical items and papers ready for a tip drop. Many people wait until they have a spare room or garage full prior to loading up the trailers and dumping.

No food items?

Perhaps this still from the video will change your opinion: http://i44.tinypic.com/jg1jj4.jpg

What’s sad? Its hilarious!
The world needs freaks to stink up the place to make me laugh.
My bet is its public housing, final inspection and the offenders have since moved on and are coming to a neighbourhood near YOU.

What’s sad is that the person involved probably has serious mental health issues relating to hoarding/OCD and needs help and assistance rather than being laughed at and called a freak. Therehas to be something wrong in your life/mental state to allow your house to become like that.

On many occasions I visit Canberra homes in my line of work and interestingly the cleanest, clearest most sterile homes are often the coldest, darkest, most negative environments for kids being raised (kids absolutely miserable as guests living in their own homes) fearful dropping a crumb as they eat their meal with a dictatorial over controlling parent(s).

Some of these parents are fearful to have one item ‘out of place’.

Uni students: do you have time to conduct a Canberra social study involving families who have children living at home with excess clutter, some clutter and zilch clutter in their homes?

Who feels the most loved and secure in their home lives?

Anecdotal evidence at best. There is no evidence for any correlation between the state of a house and the level of ‘love’ a parent gives their kids. Living in a clean and clear house does not equal kids being treated as guests in their homes just as living in a filthy rat infested hell hole equates to kids that are lovingly cared for.

Two Orbs in the Lounge Room – the owner has company other than his/her own rubbish (the kind variety I hope)!

Just had time to view the video – apologies – I had only quickly viewed the photo above and not viewed the whole video – yes the residents require assistance from a health and OH&S point of view; however I stand by all of the other comments made (for the record).

If there were food cartons and food items in view sure it would be a different issue whereby the residents do need assistance regarding a condition.

However lets face it, EVERYONE has some type of condition that requires assistance from someone at some time during their lives including those who judge.

For the record, I know where this house is and nobody has mentioned the suburb in any post. And no, the occupier wasn’t a renter, nor is this a government house or flat. The owner is person with a mentall illness who is related to me who suffered psychological trauma by having neighbours break in to the house illegally and heroically post this video online.

So has it been cleaned up yet?

The neighbours were probably tired of the stench. If he is related to you, then its quite sad that you let it get to the point it got to in the video. I and I’m sure a lot of people certainly wouldn’t stand by and let a relative fester in an environment such as that. Especially with an underlying mental illness condition.

I guess its just easier to get annoyed with people who bring attention to the neglect some show to their relatives in need.

I sincerely hope the guy got the help he required.

Trauma you might be adding to by resurrecting a four year old post?

That dirty cat should learn to clean up it’s pizza’s a goon boxes

Surely the owner or occupier took these pics and put the clip on YouTube? Why would they have allowed anyone else in to take them, unless for a perverse desire to air their dirty linen, so to speak…

As for the “snipe from the edges” bit, that’s just so god-damned funny I now have to find a handy wipe to get the tandoori chicken and pesto off my screen.

Thank you for your contributions this afternoon Overheard. Now I have had to find a handy wipe to wipe the orange I’ve been eating of my screen. Haha. You’ve made my day!

DING DING DING

Back to your corners please gentlemen and confine yourselves to the issues if you would please.

I’m still not sure where your unwarranted attack is coming from, but I indeed sincerely apologise if I have offended you in a past life.

At the moment it appears the only person around here scrambling about is you.

No arguments here.

I wouldn’t have a clue if that is the abode or not.

I’m merely pointing out that the infrastructure is rather similar to what I’ve seen in Florey. For the record it is a massive development and encompasses several hundred homes – all with this unique building style.

I presume that elsewhere in Canberra also has similar patterns (an example is Mrs Mælinar has seen the house design she grew up in in Evatt, in Holt, and in Weston Creek), but the question is ‘any ideas’ – this is ‘an idea’.

Indeed I do think I know where the house in question is, and I deliberately didn’t include it. I recognised the fallen trash-pack at the front of the house instantly as it has been there for a very long time.

Actually, I stand corrected on the question of the question. (Didn’t see the first one.)

But do you not think there’s a difference between saying ‘Florey’ (or wherever) and posting the picture of the alleged abode?

@Overheard – I suggest you take up your issues with somebody who cares.

JB asked a question, and after 26 other posts, I answered it. Now do you have anything relevant and OT to say, or are you going to continue to snipe from the edges ?

Priceless.

You want to track back there sport and have a look at where the “question” came in to the chronology on this one? Hmmmmm?

Now, what did I do with my irony supplements?

According to Wikipedia she died of cancer at 31. That’s pretty sad. Life doesn’t even begin until forty.

“It was acceptable in the eighties.
It was acceptable at the time….”

And whatever did happen to Minnie Ripperton? She was better than a one hit wonder.

Exposed interior brickwork…. brrrrrr (shiver). is it any wonder they went down this path?

It’s most edifying that they don’t have 50 thousand cats though. Usually when people go this way, they collect/horde cats (I have NO idea why). collecting rubbish is better than cats.

To my eye this looks like a piece of performance art. This sort of thing could really turn some heads at the next Belconnen Biennale.

Can’t embed into a comment Mael, try just sending a link?

“Class act” being a comment on Maelinar’s Private Dick(head) work.

By the looks of it, this person most probably has a mental health issue that involves the hoarding process. Sad, but not unusual.

Once when I was working in community nursing, I had to visit a client’s home in Brisbane. The person involved had transgender matters and lived with a parrot for companionship, leeting the bird fly around the house freely. Needless to say, there was feathers and bird crap everywhere, not the most hygienic of places for someone with ongoing health problems.

I well remember a doco about a person who’d suffered a cataclysmic event (or series of events) in their life that led to their inability to throw anything out. Extremely sad; the difference being that they were anally organised in the retention of their stuff (bread bag ties, plastic bags, catalogues, copies of the Berkshire Chronicle, etc.).

I believe a family member of mine had a similar (undiagnosed) affliction. Probably explains why I’ll dump/recycle most of my stuff at the blink of an eye.

Whoever AMF, Belco is (be that their initials or their place of work), they’re obviously a very caring, compassionate soul. A true and discreet friend in need, indeed.

Anyone have any ideas where this temple to slovenliness could be? – check out the flats anywhere off Ratcliffe Crescent in Florey – particularly in those little nibble street thinggies.

The house design is the same as pictured, although the one I have been inside had a viewable floor.

What’s sad? Its hilarious!

That is just so sad.

I dont recall seeing a cat in the footage.
You guys dont give the tenants enough credit. I’m sure Berri Estate Crisp Dry White, with its delightful apricot high notes, subtle suitcase aromas and stinging metho palate, is a perfect match to the complex flavours of Whiskas Meatloaf.

C’mon JB, I’ve heard of this ‘Over on YouTube one “amfbelco”’ story before, fess-up mate it’s your house isn’t it mate. Don’t start denying it, the first step to solving the problem is to admit it.

Not I.

Never let the empty goonbags stack up to more than I can carry in one go.

i also have a feeling that the poster could be the landlord.

grunge_hippy7:35 pm 03 Sep 08

i know some families that live like that. kids come to school barely dressed because they cant find clean clothes under the piles.

good grief. seriously it could be my derro neighbours…
one has to ask amfbelco how they gained access to the filthhole…
i love the goon pile by the bed! and the way that the garage is the cleanest place in the whole house…

So what was the filmer doing in there? I hope no-one takes advantage of this mentally ill person.

oh god, dont look in the toilet

being a clean freak that video is really hard for me to watch..

they have quite a collecton of electronics there,

Do people like this deserve to breath our air?

Jesus, I too feel very clean right now, those poor cats having to live in that mess, I just don’t know how someone can live in that state.
I wonder what the go is with the 3 t.v’s in the same room?
I wonder where this house is and how the filmmaker got the footage?
Absolutely disgusting.

I remember seeing a house in Ainslie that had been occupied by a hoarder – floor to ceiling piles of newspapers and magazines, tiny channels you could just fit in to walk through – the contents of the lounge room filled 38 trash packs. Everything else was cemented together with mouse excrement. Although from the outside you would never have known what was inside the house.

I saw a similar issue on the news in Sydney, they used a bulldozer to remove the junk from the front lawn that was stacked 1m high.

I see at least 3 recycling bins there. Ironic?

Seriously gross…

I thought I could make some spurious comment about my student sharehouse; but I stand corrected.

Seriously, that is the home of a very ill individual(s). The sheer volume of Berri Estate’s finest stands in mute testament to that.

What they need is Kim & Aggie: http://www.channel4.com/4homes/on-tv/how-clean-is-your-house/index.html

What an awesome show! The house on this post isn’t a scrape on some of the gaffs I’ve seen on this TV extravaganza.

It’s all about managing expectations….

….wow.

My room feels so ridiculously clean right about now..
