They call them Flags huh?

By FXST01 - 1 August 2012 9

When are those responsible for the all the National Flags flying at Commonwealth Place (on LBG Side) between the National Gallery of Australia and the National Library of Australia going to replace the torn, tattered and faded looking flags?

It’s just one flag either, if I was visiting another country and saw the host nation displaying my National Flag in the condition of these ones, I would be offended.

What’s Your opinion?

I believe this is a NCA issue not a toy parliament issue.

And as they have spent all their money cleaning up the lake and fixing the dam – there isn’t a spare grand to buy some new flags….

Getting rid of just one useless public servant would free up enough money to pay for 100 new flags.

Probably two or more.
Remember, the process would be something like:
1) Put out a tender for flags
2) Form a committee to analyse the tender results
3) Write a (draft) report on the tender process and determine the successful bidder
4) Circulate the draft report for comment (incl numerous rewrites)
5) On request, change the successful bidder to the company owned by a mate of the division head
5) Oh, and with any money left, get a couple of new cheap-arse flags….

It’s an expensive twelve-month process! Hahahaha!

Ah, so in fact we’d have to hire 2 or 3 new pubes just to organise the process of purchasing 100 flags.

Reminds me of that 8 million dollar fund to build houses for aboriginals – the pubes did such a good job administering it, that they got all of 12 new houses from the $8,000,000 before the money ran out.

What I like about these flags is that every time I walk past, at least one of them is flying upside down, whether or not the country in question is in distress or not.

Yes, this can be a problem for the Swedes, Finns and Swiss etc. I guess people will just wave to you as you’re dying…

I guess its more important to pour money into giant phallic owls or piling wood and or metal into a pile and calling it ‘art’ than that sort of national capital nonsense.

If you were an American then I’d guess you’d be terribly upset and probably start bombing the offending capital as soon as you could get an aircraft carrier into range. As Australian I really don’t care, in fact I might be slightly amused as I was when I saw an “Australian” flag flying overseas with the wrong number of points on the Commonwealth star (as was Bob Hawke when greeted in Ottawa by the New Zealand flag).
