Ah, so in fact we’d have to hire 2 or 3 new pubes just to organise the process of purchasing 100 flags.

Reminds me of that 8 million dollar fund to build houses for aboriginals – the pubes did such a good job administering it, that they got all of 12 new houses from the $8,000,000 before the money ran out.

I guess its more important to pour money into giant phallic owls or piling wood and or metal into a pile and calling it ‘art’ than that sort of national capital nonsense.

Related, when do you think they’ll straighten up the flagpoles on major roads such as Commonwealth Avenue. There are a few locations where the poles are leaning in different directions, looking a bit bodgy really.

if I was visiting another country and saw the host nation displaying my National Flag in the condition of these ones, I would be offended.

If you were an American then I’d guess you’d be terribly upset and probably start bombing the offending capital as soon as you could get an aircraft carrier into range. As Australian I really don’t care, in fact I might be slightly amused as I was when I saw an “Australian” flag flying overseas with the wrong number of points on the Commonwealth star (as was Bob Hawke when greeted in Ottawa by the New Zealand flag).
