The Brumbies have arrived in Invercargill after an 11 hour trip and named their side for tomorrow night to face the Highlanders who are having a much better season than we are.

The team is:

Starting XV:

1. Ben Alexander
2. Huia Edmonds
3. Salesi Maafu
4. Ben Hand
5. Mark Chisholm
6. Peter Kimlin
7. Julian Salvi
8. Ita Vaea
9. Josh Valentine
10. Matt Giteau
11. Adam Ashley-Cooper
12. Christian Lealiifano
13. Andrew Smith
14. Henry Speight
15. Matt Toomua

Reserves:

16. Anthony Hegarty
17. Dan Palmer
18. Colby Faingaa
19. Michael Hooper
20. Patrick Phibbs
21. Tyrone Smith
22. Franky Fainifo

So Dan Palmer, Fainifo and Faingaa have been axed, and Robbie Coleman is no longer required at all.

(Does anyone seriously believe in form players are “rested” in the middle of a horrendous losing streak?)

Looking at the Investec Brumbies pool the vast majority of Brumbies fans are tipping a Highlanders win.

How about Giteau keeps wearing the number 10 jumper but sits on the sidelines. Not good for the team at 10 but must be good for his ego. Forget effort how about ability and being able to get the job done. To date this has not happened. Another week of hearing how its time for him to step up and deliver. Also how many more young prospects is he going to ruin before he accepts he can not play 10.

The Brumbies backs are copping unfair flak this year; no backline can thrive on slow ball. Our forwards are too soft at the breakdown – they need to get a bit of mongrel in the cleanout. You’ll get a perfect example of what I’m talking about when they play the Highlanders tonight, they’re the kings of the breakdown.

Dropping Robbie Coleman right out of the squad – great for his confidence Rea… How about you bring in Les Kiss and Greg Florimo, they’ll fix the backline woes.

+1

Coleman has been the sliver lining for the Brumbies this season. He’s made one mistake all year (missed tackle on Tom Carter) and he’s back playing grade footy.

As bad a season as it’s been, they’ve really only been embarrassed by the Crusaders, but the shuffling and re-shuffling reeks of desperation and does nothing for the confidence of the players.

Tyrone Smith does still exist!
