As the temperature dips in the region, the Southern Highlands is in preparation mode for the month of June, as it becomes the ‘Southern Pie-lands’, celebrating the humble and beloved Pie. The Pie Trail will see over 30 local pie outlets as the hero venues for locals and visitors to experience a locally made pie whilst also having the opportunity to dine out on an array of exclusive signature pies on offer from participating businesses throughout the Southern Highlands during June, otherwise known as Pie Time.

Also throughout Pie Time, people have the opportunity to undertake a Pie themed event such as Pie Dinners, Lunches and High Teas, Pie Cooking Classes, Pie Tours, Pie Drives, Pie Competitions, Pie Short Break stays and much more.

With so much on, we have rounded up the top Pies to try and events to attend:

Stones Patisserie.

Top 5 Pies

‘Edna’ Pie from Stones Patisserie – High Street Arcade, Bowral

Mark Stone has named the pie after his late grandmother and it is filled with a warming combination of beef, mushrooms and red wine.

‘Eden’ Pie from Gumnut Patisserie – Berrima, Mittagong and Bowral

A mouthwatering combination of beef that is braised overnight in a specialty beer from the Eden Brewery. The braised beef is then pulled apart and added to a homemade Smokey BBQ sauce along with vegetables and scooped into a savoury short pastry, lidded with real butter puff pastry top.

Eden’ Pie from Gumnut Patisserie.

‘Bushman’ Pie from Heatherbraes Pies – Heatherbrae or Sutton Forrest

A tempting and classic combination of chopped beef, onions and bacon, simmered with carrots, parsnips and mushrooms.

The ‘Bernie’ from Southern Rise Bakery – Moss Vale or Robertson

A collaborative effort with Bernie’s Diner, this pulled pork winter warmer with an all-butter puff top and a shortcrust base was the ‘2017 Southern Highlands overall Best Pie Winner’.

The ‘Rooster’ from Robertson Pie Shop – Illawarra Highway, Robertson

Cooked to perfection chicken with hints of leek & camembert.
