Triple J now broadcasting from Tuggeranong

By kenneth - 12 November 2008 13

After tuning around late last night and noticing that all the Tuggeranong Hill translators were off, I was wondering if Classic FM’s and Triple J’s translators would be coming online.

Today, I tuned into 95.9 and noticed that Triple J is now broadcasting on their Tuggeranong translator frequency. Classic FM isn’t yet and according to the ACMA radio frequency register, they currently don’t have an allocation on Tuggeranong Hill.

ABC Classic FM has been test-broadcasting from Tuggeranong Hill on 99.1 Mhz, apparently since mid November. When I rang the ABC Reception enquiry line, they said if after 30 days the testing is ok they will make it a production site, else it gets more testing.

Triple J is also in test from Tugg Hill on 95.9 Mhz

Whilst in test the signal/program can e taken off air at any time, as they do adjustments etc.

What’s the frequency Kenneth?

I drive to Cooma all the time and usually lose 101.5 just before I get into town. Next week I’ll try 95.9.

Looks like they are still testing as it’s just a stereo carrier at the moment. I suspect that everything will be working fine by the end of the week considering they still have work to do.

Meh, 101.5 works quite nicely here in Tuggers, I don’t see a point in switching between the two frequencies. Technically I can sometimes even receive it on 98.9 which is the south coast frequency.

Depends on where you live. If you live near the Hills or go past Mt Taylor, you get a weak signal.

Agreed. When I lived in Kambah (West), I always got crystal-clear reception on 101.5, whereas friends in Kambah (East) living in the shadow of Mt Taylor got static. I had a colleague who routinely taped ‘This Sporting Life’ for another colleague as the former didn’t have a hope in Hades of getting it. In this digital age, it seems ludicrous that it’s only being sorted 15 years down the track.

Meanwhile, my TV can’t pick up proper reception down the coast and I’m actually quite happy about that!

miz, I suggest you stay tuned (No pun intended) to 99.1 as it looks like it will be Classic FM’s Tuggeranong frequency (still testing at the moment)

miz; 104 can now be found at 100.7 in tuggers

We’ve noticed the car settings for Mix and 104 have become cactus – happened a few months ago. (I don’t care, I like 2CA, but my kids complain! Also classicFM. Does anyone know:
a. whether these have changed frequency in Tuggers? and
b. if so, where to, and why? It’s annoying to have to change frequencies when you cross town . . . and probably not safe either.

JJJ has always been a stong signal, whereas ClassicFM appears to always have static.

Bit of an update. Classic FM could go on 99.1 as the ABC has a licence for that frequency. Currently has carrier.
