I continue to inexpertly steer the Unearthed Reviews towards glory.

The next band on the my list is Raw City Rukus, a six-piece hip hop group whose music managed to get Johnboy and I to shut up for a bit and stop cracking jokes about the Bumblebee for a few minutes. This is an achievement worth noting.

Here’s what they have to say about themselves:

Canberra Hip Hop Crew with a funky live band. Established in mid 2009 and quickly developed a strong following through energetic & dynamic live shows.

The Rukus have wasted little time since their emergance in ’09. Playing a large number of shows and festivals at venues all over the nations capital, including Foreshore Summer Music Festival 2010 & 2011, Summer Rhythm Festival, Academy Nightclub and Suburban Music Festival. They have shared the stage with the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Xzibit, Salt n Pepa, Jean Grae, Koolism, Illy, Spit Syndicate, D’Opus & Roshambo, The Tongue and Lowrider.

Here’s what I have to say about them:

This is solid, enjoyable, no-nonsense hip hop. Extremely easy to get into, and well executed throughout. Lyrics are good, the MC is great, and the backing vocals lift it all up wonderfully.

Listen to Aint We Funkin’. I can’t really pick which track I prefer more, but I dig the title.

Four stars.
