This morning I joined the media scrum at the National Gallery for the opening of their new “Varilaku” exhibition of Solomon Island art.
For many of the pieces it’s their first time ever on exhibition in a gallery so there’s certainly novelty.
The intriguing thing for mine with these exhibitions is just how much meaning artists working with primitive tools and materials can pack into their work, and also how much intricacy in their patterns.
If you want to know more the official media release is online as is the fact sheet and there’s a page.
Best of all it’s completely free.
