Jethro, you need to check your email & get back to me.

Jethro won a prize for saying he wouldn’t change a thing?

Have the winners been announced? Or are all the entries to show up? : )

and the winner is………..drum roll please…….

Interpretations of the concept ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire’

Actually, a graffiti gallery would be cool.
A room where people could draw on the walls would also be nice. (but probably full of cocks)

The NGA is arguably already full of cocks, Skid.

inside the mind of mental illness

I’d organise a reprise of the Soft Sculpture exhibition!

How about an exhibition of picture framing…no artwork, just the frames.

My favourite, second to my own of course.

Ideal exhibition- artists-in-naturism-residence working in many media on bodies beautiful and bizarre including the skin as canvas……celebrating raw nature.

i wanna see an exhibition created by non-human animals: elephants, monkeys, etc; perhaps counterpointed by a concurrent exhibition by autists.

Massive, world class lego exhibition.

And what you said…. Lego = awesome. 🙂

Banksy and Fafi… Google them… ‘Nuff said.

“The Secret Creativities of Public Servants” – Art by government workers who exchange their suits for artist’s aprons when their 7.21 hours is done.

An exhibition based on urban art installations around the world. Mixed forms addressing documentary of pieces over time and public interaction with them.

I’d like to see an exhibition of the world’s great architecture, past, present and sustainable.

You never know, it just might inspire Canberra’s planners and developers to change their ways and build a city that has meaning and beauty and is in harmony with people.

I have a great idea, but I’m going on holiday and won’t be around for the opening, so I guess I’ll just keep it to myself!

The National Portrait Gallery next door has exactly that – it’s the Drawing Space at the end of the Headspace exhibition. They’ve provided plenty of pencils for drawing on post-its, the walls, large sheets of paper, etc, plus curved mirrors for inspiration. There’s hundreds of drawings already covering the walls.

Everyone’s encouraged to join in, so it’s great! A really lively spot.

To those suggesting street art – the Gallery already has a substantial in it’s collection. It won’t be too long until we see a show.

Looks like the airport level in COD4:MW2.

would love to see the youth of canberra/australia become involved in the gallery by holding an exhibition for the evolvement of street art/graffiti

i would love to see the youth of canberra/australia become involved in the national gallery by holding an exhibition for the evolvement of street art/graffiti – some of it is amazing and instead of condeming our youth all the time, how about making them feel proud of their achievements and assisting the young artists in our society to really feel proud about their work. could also get schools and community centres involved in some way as well

would be interesting.

Yikes, that wasn;t 25 words sorry. Try this instead –

I would exhibit Damein Hirst – The most famous, living artist. Alongside the Louvre etc, the NGA would seem as a famous, living gallery too.

(Long timer reader, not poster. Only for special occasions)

Jackson Pollock.
(like Canberra, born in 1912)

Colourful. Messy. Expensive.
confusing and glorious.
Lively. In parts.
Distinctive, yet some say boring.
perfect for Canberra!

Art created by the criminally insane and drug addled.

Forbidden art – it would involve Otto Dix, Paul Klee, Andres Sorrano, Jeff Koons, Bill Henson, Dutch cartoons, Tibetan Buddhist art and Byzantine icons.

andy warhol – i saw an exhibition of his work in edinburgh and it was awesome.

Stencil art, cos, ya know, thats art too.

I’d exhibit sculptures and installations by artists using mundane domesticated Australian objects rebirthed, like the peg basket, those aluminium BBQ tongs or Daryl Somers.

My son who’s five would most likely want to see 3D computer animated youtube videos of Dora the Explorer visiting the planets and their moons on variously coloured steam engines.

Otherwise, buy lots of paper, assemble a few origami lecturers, some instructors, and create a simple (and interactive) exhibition for adults and children.
(Like these)

Something like this illustrating that scientific insight is cromulently resonant with art crowds, over typical ‘microscopes and white coats’ imagery, and becomes dramatic once embiggened.

I’d like to see a textile art show – similar to the V&A Quilts 1700-2010, but of course with indigenous additions.

A showcase of Australian art challenging the stereotypes of what Australia art is: an eclectic mix of the popular (from Max Dupain to Ken Done).

How about a Star Trek fan art exhibition. Have you seen the documentary Trekkies? There are fans out there doing some really amazing work and it’s of particular cultural interest that they chose to illustrate fictional characters from the future.

Well, personally I would bring an exhibition showcasing photography and installations of modern and contemporary street art like Mark Jenkins (http://www.xmarkjenkinsx.com/outside.html) and Banksy (http://www.banksy.co.uk/). I think this kind of art is starting to gain status in the art world, and an exhibition here at the NGA would really bring it’s ideas to Australia, and especially Canberra!
