Woman assaulted in Narrabundah after Uber mix-up

ACT Policing are seeking witnesses to a serious assault that happened after a woman got into a stranger’s car, thinking it was an Uber she had ordered.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday morning after the 18-year-old left a city bar.

The woman had been enjoying a night out at One22 and ordered an Uber to take her home at around 3am, 26 March 2021.

Soon after a silver vehicle approached and she got in. ACT Police say they don’t believe it was a legitimate Uber vehicle.

As the woman got into the vehicle a stranger also jumped in and sat next to her on the back seat. The vehicle was driven to Narrabundah, in the vicinity of Jerrabomberra Avenue, where both the woman and man alighted.

The vehicle drove away and the woman was then seriously assaulted by the male passenger.

Police are investigating multiple lines of inquiries and are seeking any witnesses to the incident or details of the vehicle and driver.
