Work to start on the Belconnen Enhanced Community Health Centre

The car park probably makes the building easier to sell to property tycoons in the event of a financial crisis or to rent office space to doctors, nurses, pathologists, allied health, etc. for private practice.

Belconnen already has a primary health care building, 2 pathogoly labs, multiple drs, and a ACT Health building.

I’m going to have to walk further to the patholgly labs and there will be no donuts on my way back 🙁

All jokes aside, it’s not uncommon in commercial buildings to have a basement car park. Yes, it’s a Government building, but I suspect that will be a lease arrangement.

Why is there a basement car park? According to Govt. stats there are already more car parks in Belco than needed. The Cost of the basement car park could have been put towards super enhanced health care.

Work will commence soon? The carpark is already ripped up and half the basement carpark area excavated — and that’s just happened in the past few days. Apparently someone neglected to advise the construction company on the appropriate pacing for ACT Government projects.

I found the order of news items on WIN News amusing.

The first item was on how much office space is empty in the ACT. Then there was this news item, where we’re building a whole new building.

I clearly don’t know the logistics of it, but I can’t help wondering if a whole new building is needed.
