Chief Minister Gallagher is letting us know she has once again been out looking at things and work will commence soon on the Belconnen Enhanced Community Health Centre:

“The $51.3 million Belconnen Enhanced Community Health Centre will provide the Belconnen community with a contemporary healthcare hub,” the Chief Minister said.

“It will be a light, airy and modern facility, offering a range of new services including breast screening, medical imaging, renal medicine services and pathology collection.

“It will also offer enhanced services in physiotherapy, nutrition, child health, sexual health, dental services, and community based nursing and allied health services, in addition to existing alcohol and drug counselling, diabetes and mental health services.

“The Community Health Centre will be more centrally located at the intersection of Lathlain Street and Cohen Street, near the new bus interchange and Westfield shopping centre,” the Chief Minister said.

The impressive plans are on the health website.

The car park probably makes the building easier to sell to property tycoons in the event of a financial crisis or to rent office space to doctors, nurses, pathologists, allied health, etc. for private practice.

Are you saying you’d prefer a car park than improved health care?

I’m saying that if they keep taking away the carparks that there will be a shortage of the all day carparks which will lead to more 3 hour parkers in Westfield.
What is going to happen when all the parents come back from leave?

Belconnen already has a primary health care building, 2 pathogoly labs, multiple drs, and a ACT Health building.

I’m going to have to walk further to the patholgly labs and there will be no donuts on my way back 🙁

Why is there a basement car park?

Can’t expect senior PS to park in the weather, can you? 😉

All jokes aside, it’s not uncommon in commercial buildings to have a basement car park. Yes, it’s a Government building, but I suspect that will be a lease arrangement.

Why is there a basement car park? According to Govt. stats there are already more car parks in Belco than needed. The Cost of the basement car park could have been put towards super enhanced health care.

PS:

What are the plans for the existing health center?

Work will commence soon? The carpark is already ripped up and half the basement carpark area excavated — and that’s just happened in the past few days. Apparently someone neglected to advise the construction company on the appropriate pacing for ACT Government projects.

so Belconnen is loosing 3 all day carparks within the next year… 🙁 (Linq, the advert towers one and this one)
I think there are going to a bunch of unhappy people working in Belconnen

I found the order of news items on WIN News amusing.

The first item was on how much office space is empty in the ACT. Then there was this news item, where we’re building a whole new building.

I clearly don’t know the logistics of it, but I can’t help wondering if a whole new building is needed.
