Yvette Berry, Member for Ginninderra and Lego builder, has raised concerns that Canberran workers may not be receiving their correct entitlements for working over Easter. She is encouraging workers to double check that they are getting what they are owed.

I had a number of conversations with workers over the long weekend who informed me that they were not going to be receiving penalty rates for working on the Easter public holidays” Ms Berry said.

“Most of these workers were young people who were not sure what they should be paid, I am concerned that some workers will not be getting paid penalty rates or have traded away a substantial amount of extra pay for small bonuses or extra leave that are not to the value of what they should have received.

“I am encouraging employers to make sure that they have not forgotten about their obligations to pay their employees these entitlements and to let workers know that if they are unsure of their entitlements that they should contact Fair Work as soon as possible.
“Penalty rates and additional payments to people who work on weekends, late nights and on public holidays have long been part of our workplace relations system, so please make sure that you have your bases covered” Ms Berry concluded.
