ACT Policing has arrested a 42-year-old Ainslie man after a burglary occurred at a jewellery store in Civic last Saturday night (November 30).

The burglary occurred around 10pm at a jewellery store on Mort Street, Civic where a substantial amount of jewellery was stolen. During the burglary a man wearing distinctive clothing was captured on security CCTV removing jewellery from a display cabinet.

Around 12.30pm yesterday (December 5), police were conducting patrols around Petrie Plaza when they saw a man who physically resembled the offender in the CCTV footage from the burglary. The man was also wearing clothing, including a blue backpack which was similar to the offender in the CCTV footage.

Around 5.30pm yesterday, officers from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations executed a search warrant at an Ainslie house. During the warrant, police located and seized further clothing which was worn by the offender during the burglary.

The man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he has been charged with burglary and theft. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates court today and bail will be opposed.
