As school holidays kick into gear and Christmas looms ever nearer, there are several summer releases for the children. Dendy Canberra also has a few special screenings lined up for adults and children alike.

It’s A Wonderful Life. RKO Radio Pictures, 1946.

Get into the Christmas spirit first thing Monday morning December 18 with a retro-revisit of the family classic It’s A Wonderful Life. Released all the way back in 1946, it is still revered all these years later. Its message still rings true, reinforcing the ever-important need for perspective – especially at this time of year – and to appreciate the blessings we may take for granted.

George Bailey (James Stewart) gets a new lease on life when an angel returns to earth to remind him of just how lucky he is. A reminder to be grateful this Christmas and to be good to the ones you love. Spare a thought, a meal, a hand, or a smile for those who are less fortunate.

Nominated for five Oscars following its initial release, It’s A Wonderful Life currently sits 70 years on at #24 on IMDB’s Top 250 Movies List. Screening 10:30 am Monday morning with the jolly inclusion of Christmas cake!

Downsizing.Paramount Pictures, 2017.

Also this week, enjoy a preview screening of Alexander Payne’s (Sideways, The Descendants, Nebraska) newest feature, Downsizing. Starring Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig, the film ponders the prospect of shrinking humans as a means of dealing with overpopulation.

As our protagonists adapt to this newfound lifestyle alternative, all sorts of adventures arise through the story’s thought-provoking situations. Wednesday, December 20 at 6:30 pm. Tickets are only $10/$12.

Pitch Perfect 3. Universal Pictures, 2017.

Stay festive and get musical come Friday evening with a Red Carpet Preview Screening of Pitch Perfect 3. This instalment sees the Bellas reunite for one last hurrah as they head overseas for a USO (United Services Operations) Tour where all manner of music, mayhem and mischief ensues.

The fancy soirée gets underway at 6:30 pm, December 22 with attendees to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine upon arrival. Club Dendy Members, $15/Non-members, $18.

>Doctor Who: Twice Upon A Time. BBC, 2017.

Featuring the return of Pearl Mackie and several special guests, this special Christmas Screening will also include two special behind the scenes bonus featurettes.

Ride out the Christmas hangover with this special screening at Dendy Cinemas from 4:00 pm on Boxing Day. All tickets are $20.

The Man Who Invented Christmas. Elevation Pictures, 2017.

If that wasn’t enough Christmas cheer for you – and if you haven’t seen it already – be sure to get along to The Man Who Invented Christmas, telling the story of how Charles Dickens actually revived the Christmas holiday through the publication of his novel, A Christmas Carol.

Happy viewing, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
