Joy Burch has announced the opening of nominations for the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year awards. The awards are open to people aged between 12 to 25 years old, and of course, they must live in the ACT.

So if you know any amazing big kids, brilliant young adults, or even a teenager who isn’t completely awful, think about nominating them.

“If you know a young person who has made a significant personal achievement or a contribution to the ACT community now is the time to nominate them,” Ms Burch said.

“The ACT Government is once again happy to support the Awards that give us an opportunityto celebrate young people, recognise their achievements and thank them for their hard work.”

This year’s categories are Young Canberra Citizen of the Year, Personal Achievement, Group Award, Youth Arts and Multimedia, Individual Community Service, and Young Environmentalist.

The winner of the 2013 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year award will receive $2000 with winners of the other categories will each receive $1000.

I’m sorry teenagers. I know you get a bad rap, but the joke had to be made.
