A darker side of Christmas

John Hargreaves has announced the start of the 2008 Domestic Violence Christmas Program.

Sadly over the festive period there’s also a need for additional crisis accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence.

To this end 10 Housing ACT properties are being set aside as additional crisis accomodation.

Statistics suggest at least a couple of RiotACT readers should take a long hard look at themselves and spare their loved ones the need to use these facilities.

Thanks Gobbo, I recall the reported costs for people in the corrections system as being in the order of $220 per day for people in NSW custodial care, about $190 per day for periodic detention people and a stellar $500 or so per day for people in the remand centres.

Allowing that the carrying capacity for remandees in the ACT is 100; that’s $50k a day right there.

Talk about new projects and ACT government money: public art is back on the agenda … this time in Gunghalin’s concrete park. Not paintings or statues, but rusty steel, sharply-barbed spear-like projections coming out of the ground. About a dozen or so… Not TOO close to the little playground, so the incidents of child disembowelment and dismemberment should be pretty low.

I was going to ask Ant for some evidence to substantiate this statement but then I realised that it was only the poster’s opinion and therefore, given past form, unreliable at best.

I doubt the $40k covers the cost of ACT Prisoners in the NSW system.

With that being the case, then perhaps we should hope they don’t complete it too quickly. If they extend the delay the Government could have Chubb pay for the facility. 🙂

Another spectacular on-time project from our fearless leaders…

It should be noted that the reason the project is running late is under performance by one of the subbies – Chubb I believe (?) – who are paying the ACT Government $40,000 for each day the opening is delayed by, if I am not mistaken…
