Automotive mayhem in Kaleen?

By Posh - 5 May 2009 48

Did anyone hear or see the idiot speeding at what would have been easily 120kms in Maribyrnong Street, Kaleen at around 11.15pm last night?

Apparently this wasn’t the first occasion through the night.

I thought it was a motor bike from the sound of it, but was shocked to see what looked like an early 70’s Datsun(?) speeding from before Ellenborough round about up towards Giralang then 5 minutes later come back in the opposite direction at an unbelievable speed.

If you were crossing the road or trying to turn into a street you wouldn’t have had a hope of surviving that crash.

Caltrop/Caltrap – And here’s a picture http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Caltrope_(PSF).jpg

5 for US $20 – http://www.defensedevices.com/caltrops.html (possibly not easily available in Australia)

Gotta love that. Vivid imagery, I think some should remember that imagining and doing are indeed separate things. Thanks Loose Brown, sounds a bit like that scene in the first Mad Max film really.

A caltrap is ancient weapon with spiky points thrown on the ground to impede soldiers, horses and anything else trying to traverse said ground.

Oh and peterh for the record if its the car I think it is, it gets around without number plates and the AFP have been informed several times.

With films like Fast and the Furious providing plenty of “mental stimulation” to testosterone charged young males coupled with the growing use of agression in advertising and marketing, have you noticed? – I could not believe it when they advertised the Logies as a “street fight”! – It is no surprise that more and more people take road laws for granted and have a f*%k you attitude.

If it’s Tempesta’s fantasy to hear a rotary whiz by his home before losing control and skid screeching into a tree with a huge bang, run out the front door and walk up to the smoking car, glass all shattered and wrapped around the tree, crippled driver moaning and softly calling out for help while blood pours from the side of his face, as Tempesta looks up and down the street – no one has come out yet but lights are coming on so must act quickly, grab the jerry can of petrol and swiftly splash it over the smoking bonnet before throwing the can into the arms of the desperate driver before stepping back as a loud WHOMP! sound as the car ignites – then that’s his business and who are you to judge?

best post ever

Giggling like a schoolgirl…again.

I think its a f*wit in a turbo rotary in a car like you suggest. He seems to enjoy getting his pop-off valve to pop-off multiple times.

It’s a shame we can’t legally throw caltraps on the road for such delightful drivers.

If he does get around to wrapping himself around a tree, make sure you tell him how much you appreciate him before calling an emergency service.

if you did throw caltraps on the road, and he hit them at the speeds suggested, would you be prepared to apologise to the family of the house in which his car could be lodged? Just call emergency services. if he dies and you wasted precious time giving him a piece of your mind when you could have helped him, more fool you. Idiot drivers are all over canberra. if you can see what his car is, maybe calling the police and reporting the make, model and plate would help?

I heard speeding cars followed by a lot of swearing and abuse coming from a street in Giralang last night, possibly related. Perhaps this is what someone got for trying to indicate their displeasure to the offender(s).

It’s nights like these I think about forming a vigilante posse.

Posh 1:12 pm 05 May 09

The car is a light colour – looks a pale yellow or maybe the street lights taints the colour a bit – but it was going so fast I could only see it for a split second even though the noise gives you fair warning that it is on its way it doesn’t help because of the speed. But it was definitely one of those older small cars that looks like it’s been ‘hotted’ up.

We had a family living across the reserve from us who’s teenage son used to crack 80km/h on a short and narrow street where people generally ease along at 30km/h, due to kids and bikes, etc. A few members of the neighbourhood had a word with the guy and the behaviour stopped soon afterwards.

Any chance of that happening in this case?

barking toad 12:32 pm 05 May 09

No.

A lot of ACT residents don’t live in Kaleen.
