A 18-year-old man remains in a serious condition in Canberra Hospital after being assaulted outside a Batemans Bay hotel late on Saturday night.

The man was struck to the head despite not being part of a fight going on between two groups of men in the carpark of the hotel in Orient Street just before midnight on Saturday, according to NSW Police.

The blow to the head allegedly caused him to fall backwards hitting his head on the roadway.

The youth was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital where he was placed in an induced coma before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital for further treatment.

He is understood to be in a serious but stable condition.

Police from Far South Coast Local Area Command continue with inquiries into the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the NSW Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
