For those who haven’t caught up with the news, ABC Radio 666 Afternoon Show host David Kilby has announced he is retiring. This Friday is his last Afternoon Show, then he does a couple of weeks filling in for the breakfast show.
His musical taste wasn’t for everyone, indeed I sometimes wondered whether we’d gone back 50 years and were listening to the Dean Martin show on radio, but you couldn’t deny his encylopeadic knowledge of music from the 50s and 60s.
I’m not a long-time Canberran, so I can’t comment on how long he has been around Canberra radio and the ABC. Instead, in tribute let me say that over the course of a year his gentle charm, interesting guests and lengthy interviews have changed me from initially detesting him and the Afternoon Show, to listening to it every day. I hope we don’t lose him permanently and he is able to pop up now and then as a guest to share his musical knowledge.
