Big changes are coming to ABC Radio Canberra soon, with a new weekday lineup announced for 2024.

Ross Solly will be returning to Canberra radio to host the Drive program. As the former host of ABC Radio Canberra’s Breakfast Show for nine years, Ross is already a familiar voice to local audiences.

Ross said he was delighted to be returning to the weekday lineup.

”I’m super excited to get this opportunity to be part of the ABC Canberra local radio community once again,” he said.

“It’s an enormous privilege to be part of our listeners’ lives, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting and sharing their stories.”

Julie Doyle, ABC Canberra Editor, said: “It’s very exciting to welcome Ross back to ABC Canberra. He has a wonderful community connection and is an accomplished broadcaster and interviewer who also has a great sense of fun.”

Ross will take over the Drive presenting role from the end of November.

ABC Radio Canberra is also making a number of other changes to its weekday lineup, which will come into effect in January 2024.

Current Drive presenter Anna Vidot will take up the breakfast radio newsreading role next year, joining Julian Abbott, who will move into the afternoon newsreader role until his retirement in March.

Current afternoon newsreader Andrew Messenger is retiring in December after 23 years with ABC Canberra and a long and distinguished career in radio and television.

”Andy Messenger’s retirement from our newsreading ranks leaves a big hole,” Ms Doyle said.

“But I’m really pleased to have a trusted voice in Anna Vidot, who can move into the position of morning news reader. Anna will give Canberrans all the news they need to start their day.”

Georgia Stynes will move from Afternoons to Mornings to host an agenda-setting program with a community news focus.

Georgia’s replacement on Afternoons will be Alice Matthews, previously the Sunday Brunch presenter. Alice is also a regular presenter of the Canberra 7 pm TV news bulletin.

Lish Fejer, the previous Mornings presenter, will take on a new role focusing on creating digital audio and video content for the ABC Listen app and ABC Canberra’s social media platforms.

Emma Bickley will continue to present Saturday Breakfast with her gardening co-host Graham’ Willow’ Williams, and Adam Shirley will continue as Breakfast presenter in 2024.

The ABC across the board has less people watching and listening to it every year. If you only ever espouse and support one side of politics (the Communist Green and Socialist Left) and openly mock the other both editorially and in content people turn your content off and watch and listen to something else. The ABC supposedly has a charter that forbids journalistic bias and they have not followed this charter for decades. Every Left of centre thought bubble becomes their next mantra, everything from the failed Voice referendum to the latest siding with HAMAS and so-called Palestinian liberation against the wanton muder, rape and kidnapping of innocentIsraelis. Time to disappear “our ABC” or become a pay for view platform like Sky News and Foxtel or hopefully disappear altogether.
Over 2 billion dollars every year the ABC costs Australians for nothing more than an ALP cheer squad….no thanks!

ABC Canberra management continues its blatant misogyny. Clever, competent, strategic female thinkers not required apparently. Lish your clever segments, thoughtful analysis and progressive thinking will be greatly missed on the air. Thanks heavens all the white men stay well protected.

Ross was always terrific. I’ll listen again if he is on.

Another 666 ABC shake up?! There sure has been swapping of line ups over that last couple of years!
I do hope Anna Vidot wasn’t pushed aside for Solly…

Changes happen Simmo.
