Great Hall, University House, ANU

Saturday 29th November 7.30pm, Sunday 30th November 3.00pm

Wayfarers Australia, directed by Judith Clingan AM, will be presenting the Australian premiere of New Zealand composer David Hamilton’s A CHILD COMES FORTH, together with Benjamin Britten’s A CEREMONY OF CAROLS.

Both works are for soprano and alto voices and harp, and Hamilton specifically composed his work as a companion piece to Britten’s well-loved work. The harpist will be Alice Giles, one of Australia’s finest.

The full four-part choir will then present works by three composers who have written most of their works in and for Canberra:

Judith Clingan’s A MASS OF HOPE was commissioned by the Canberra Children’s Choir (now Canberra Youth Singers) in 1992 for its 25th anniversary. Judith Clingan was the founding director of the Canberra Children’s Choir. She has been one of Australia’s leading music educators and choral composers for more than 40 years.

Liam Waterford’s MISSA BREVIS and David Cassat’s PSALMUS were composed for the Wayfarers’ 2000 tour of Europe. Liam and David are both young composers who spent their formative years performing with Judith Clingan’s ensemble Gaudeamus (now Music for Everyone). As young adults they toured with Wayfarers. Both are now making their mark in the wider musical world as distinctive composers of choral music.

This looks really interesting. I would go if I was in town that weekend, but will be interstate.
