Pratt questions prison works

Opposition spokesman on all things police Steve Pratt says the government is moving too slowly on building the new prison in Hume.

This puts him in opposition to the federal branch of his party, with Gary Nairn telling us at the start of October the ACT Government was being arrogant in starting preliminary site works before a DA was lodged.

If Mr Pratt is to be believed (and I have not been near Hume recently so have no reason not to believe him), very little of these preliminary works have actually been completed, or even started.

“While there are a few construction tape barriers in the area very little work has actually occurred at the site,” he said.

He said there are rumours floating around that the DA, when lodged, was missing “important information regarding underground mains” which meant it could not be approved.

He wants Jon Stanhope to tell everyone if this is true and if not, why the works have been stalled.
