An alleged escapee from a correctional centre in Goulburn has been charged and will appear in court today.
Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 18 August 2015), a 28-year-old man allegedly escaped from the correctional centre in Goulburn, and was last seen in the vicinity of the centre about 12.50pm.
Officers attached to The Hume Local Area Command commenced an investigation.
Following an extensive search effort, about 10.50pm, police attempted to stop a Nissan ute, alleged to have been stolen, travelling on the Hume Highway at Marulan.
The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued, before road spikes were deployed on the highway at Pheasant’s Nest.
The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, attempted to flee the scene; however was arrested a short distance away.
He was taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with escape lawful custody, illegal use of a motor vehicle, unregistered/uninsured, unlicensed driver, and police pursuit (Skye’s Law).
The man has been refused bail, and will appear at Goulburn Local Court today (Wednesday 19 August 2015).
