Man dies in police custody in Goulburn

NSW Police have launched a critical incident investigation after a man died while in police custody in Goulburn.

Police said that about noon today (Sunday 5 March 2023), police arrested a 54-year-old man for an alleged aggravated break and enter offence on Hume Street, Goulburn.

The man was taken to Goulburn Police Station where he complained of chest pains.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called and the man collapsed a short time later but could not be revived.

Police said a critical incident investigation team from Murray River Police District would now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation would be subject to an independent review by Monaro Police District.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
