The RiotACT has extended its connections with Canberra’s major sporting franchises and the regional community with the signing of a two-year sponsorship with Brumbies Rugby and ACT & Southern NSW Rugby Union.

Coming on top of The RiotACT‘s partnership with the Canberra Cavalry Australian Baseball League franchise, the deal reinforces the media company’s ambition to become the primary source of digital regional news for people in Canberra and its surrounds.

The deal follows the launch of a new major category on The RiotACT, which will feature extended, comprehensive coverage of sport in the ACT and the surrounding areas. It won’t be the last, with more sporting partnerships in the works so that The RiotACT can broaden its coverage of women’s sport and other codes in particular.

The RiotACT Co-Owner and former CEO of Allhomes Tim White has had a long-standing relationship with the Brumbies, with Allhomes being major sponsors for many years.

However, since being acquired by Fairfax Media, Allhomes has recently decided not to continue its sponsorship, leaving the way open for Tim to resume his association with the Super Rugby franchise and support local rugby as well.

A proud Canberran, Tim is committed to supporting local businesses and organisations.

“I am looking forward to working with the Brumbies again and assisting in the promotion of rugby at a grassroots level through the ACT & Southern NSW Rugby Union,” he said.

“Brumbies CEO Michael Thomson has shown a strong commitment to strengthening relationships across regional markets, something we are very passionate about at The RiotACT.”

Mr Thomson said the sponsorship deal would enable the Brumbies to forge an even closer connection with the local Canberra community.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with such an innovative Canberra company and media, who shares similar values to the Brumbies organisation. We believe the partnership will provide a great platform for us to continue to re-connect with our community,” he said.

With The RiotACT firmly focused on Canberra and the surrounding region, the sponsorship deal with the national capital’s own Super Rugby team and the ACT & Southern NSW Rugby Union that feeds into it makes for a perfect fit.

It also fits with The RiotACT‘s recent purchase of About Regional, an emerging storytelling platform from South East NSW developed by former ABC South East NSW breakfast presenter and Regional Content Manager, Ian Campbell.

“Those connections between Canberra, the coast, and the Snowies are well known, having Ian come on board adds a new energy to that and adds to the growing formal networks being laid down through local and state government, tourism, business, and education,” Tim said.

The sponsorship deal with Brumbies Rugby and the ACT & Southern NSW Rugby Union will only strengthen those connections.
