1. Has any straight man ever owned a Mazda 121?
A 22-year-old man from Weston will face court tomorrow (Friday, August 27) after a drink-driving charge was added to his list of traffic offences.
The man was the driver in a single vehicle collision on Majura Road on Saturday, August 14, which almost destroyed his Mazda 121 sedan and closed the road for almost an hour while he was extricated from his extensively damaged vehicle.
The man was hospitalised with minor injuries from the collision. He was initially charged with driving whilst disqualified and dangerous driving. Blood tests taken after the collision revealed that he had been driving with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.203, which is more than ten times his allowed BAC, and he was formally charged with this additional offence today (Thursday, August 26).
In a separate incident early this morning, an 18-year-old provisional driver and her passenger had fled their damaged vehicle after a collision with another vehicle on Ashby Circuit, Kambah. The parked car had been forced off the road by the force of impact, and through two retaining walls. Both vehicles suffered significant damage.
Police attended around 5.45am and later identified and apprehended the 18-year-old female driver.
The driver, who has a previous conviction for drink-driving, returned a BAC of 0.107 or five times her prescribed limit. She will be summonsed to court on a date to be fixed.

2. Three cheers for bystanders:
An 18-year-old Monash man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, August 27) charged with aggravated robbery after he was chased through city streets by members of the public before being arrested.
Police will allege that the offender was one of two men who confronted the 51-year-old male victim in Allara St around 12.30am today.
Both offenders had jackets partly covering their heads when they approached the victim and demanded he surrender his wallet and mobile phone. One of the offenders threatened the victim with a knife.
The offenders stole the items and ran off. Three members of the public in the vicinity quickly came to the victim’s assistance and began pursuing the offenders on foot. One of the offenders escaped, but the other used the footbridge to cross Parkes Way, where he hid in some bushes and attempted to dispose of his weapon and the stolen property.
The witnesses directed the attending police officers to the offender’s hiding place, where items were recovered as evidence. The offender was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a single vehicle collision in Scullin this morning (Friday, August 27), in which a vehicle veered off Belconnen Way and collided with a tree.
The 22-year-old male driver who was the single occupant of the vehicle received emergency medical treatment at the scene and was later transported to The Canberra Hospital. The man is currently listed as critical, but in a stable condition at The Canberra Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are investigating the matter, and are seeking to speak with any witnesses who may have seen the collision, or saw a maroon Ford Festiva in the area prior to the collision around 1am this morning.
