The ABC reports from the trial of William Bosia Grzeskowiak, the bloke who stole hundreds of thousands from the Mint by cunningly stuffing the coins in his metal detector alarming steel-capped boots.
His shrink informed the court that it wasn’t greed, but a need for security that drove his thieving. If this one floats then we can all take to a life of crime!
Sadly it’s the worker who’s taking the fall and not the idiots in the Mint who lacked the basic quality controls to tell they were missing thousands of coins.
UPDATED: The SMH repots a sentence of 3 years, non parole of 18 months which seems appropriate. They also quote Justice Connoly being similarly amazed at the managerial incompetence of a Mint that can’t tell how much money they should have.
