If you’ve been inspired by all the spring sunshine lately to get outside and explore Canberra’s local parklands, then these events might just be what you’re looking for. As an added bonus, you’ll also get the chance to contribute to and learn about your local environment, meet new people and have a great day out.

Conservation Volunteers, Friends of Grasslands and the National Capital Authority have formed a partnership to help restore biodiversity in several parks in Canberra’s inner south.

On Saturday the 23rd October, Saturday the 13th November and Saturday the 27th November, teams of volunteers will be removing invasive woody weeds from these parks, as part of the plan to make these areas more enjoyable for people and native wildlife alike.

These activities will assist in the protection of one of Australia’s most threatened eco systems, Grassy Woodlands and help to conserve the habitat of the endangered (and wonderfully named) wildflower, the Button Wrinklewort.

Booking are essential so if you’d like to join in, or you’d like some more information, call or email Conservation Volunteers on the details below. Each day will run from 9am – 4pm and transport to and from Civic will be provided.

In the same vein, does anyone know how someone would go about the restoration of a gummint oval? I live opposite an active ACT public school oval that is in a very sad state and would like to contribute to its restoration.

“Won’t somebody think of the children!?”
