Seasonal, organic and locally-grown produce is becoming more popular– not just in Canberra but around the world.

If you’re interested in eating more organic fruit, vegetables and other fresh produce, you’ll want to make sure you have your goods delivered from the right place. Great organic food delivery services are committed to providing fresh, high-quality and affordable organic produce, delivered in a timely fashion.

In this article, we’ll outline the qualities to consider when choosing an organic food delivery service, and share where to find the best in Canberra.

What makes a great organic produce delivery service?

By choosing the right organic food delivery service, you’ll be reassured that you’ll get quality and delicious, in-season produce when you need it.

It can be helpful to keep the following in mind when choosing an organic food delivery service.

  • High-quality produce. You want organic fruit and vegetables that are fresh and high quality, not stock that’s pretty well had its day. The best organic produce delivery services quality check their food before they pack and deliver.
  • Well priced. Organic produce can be more expensive than regular supermarket produce, but that doesn’t mean you have to burn a hole in your pocket. You’ll want to check out different delivery services and compare prices.
  • Range of products. Select a service with options that meet your needs. If you’re a family, for example, you’ll need to order a larger box of produce than if you’re a single person. You might also just want to opt for vegetables, or mixed fruit and vegetables. Some organic produce delivery services allow you to customise your box. Some even have other products you can buy online with your organic food order.
  • Timely delivery. Being able to order online is convenient, but you’ll want to choose a service that delivers in a timely fashion. Explore when the organic food delivery service delivers, including days, location options and hours (some deliver after hours).
  • Bonus products. Some organic food delivery services offer free bonus products with your order, say one choice of herbs with a small box and two choices for a large box. Check out what services offer.

How do you shop with an organic food delivery service?

Online shopping is usually the way to go. Different services have different set ups, with most setting a deadline for their next delivery. What is an organic food box?

Most organic food delivery services have “boxes” of produce to order. The type, size and price of boxes varies. Some have veggies only, some fruit and veggies, and some herbs. Other items might also be available. Each company is different so check box menus online.

I’m only a single person. Is it worth it to order a food box?

ARC Organics is awesome. Fresh, quality produce and products on time every time. And locally sourced when possible. Claire’s customer service is fantastic.

Claire and the ARC Organics team have been a welcome addition to my kitchen! Wonderfully fresh food and often surprise vegetables which make me investigate new, fun, healthy recipes. a very strong recommendation from me 🙂

I personally use ARC Organics.. Great choices, fresh produce and ordering on the website is easy .. Love it!! – https://arcorganics.com.au/

+1 for http://www.lostriverproduce.com.au .

I would say they are one of the best butchers in Canberra.

My 2 cents

I’ve been ordering my vegetables and fruit through Darren and Elaina at Canberra Organics (http://www.canberraorganics.com.au) for about a year now and I think they’re wonderful. I normally order a seasonal fruit and vegetable pack, but you can also pick and choose from a wide range of organic vegetables, fruit and general grocery items.

I’ve also ordered a lot of meat (beef and lamb) through Lost River Produce (http://www.lostriverproduce.com.au), although they haven’t been certified organic, they don’t add any hormones or antibiotics to their produce.

Just keep your fingers crossed no one rips your vegies off you come harvest time………!

Join COGS and get your hands dirty growing your own damned organic veggies. I just rented a 30sq.m plot at Oaks Estate for $60 a year and everything’s growing very nicely.

Just about all the tools you’d need including a nice supply of tomato stakes, and various hoes, shovels, pitchforks etc are all there for anyone to use. Just dig, water, mulch, mulch, pick weeds, mulch, wait, and Bob’s your uncle.

Delivered by a dray pulled by a horse fed on organic oats, with its waste products used for methane generation.

I hope it’s delivered on a push bike, wouldn’t be right burning fossil fuels to get it to your door… would it?
