Is it normal to have a house gecko appear in your Canberra Garden?

We had someone working on our roof last week, lifting tiles to blow rock-wool insulation down into the walls.
He accidentally killed a gecko, which he says he finds very commonly in Canberra roofs. It superficially looks like an Asian house gecko, but we’ve never heard their little clicking calls, and the tail isn’t serrated like them.
I’m pretty sure it’s a Marbled gecko, Christinus marmoratus, which has a wikipedia page. Nice to know they’re common, although I’ve never seen one in the garden.

They are common all over the whole region. The less disturbed the place the more there are – e.g. old farmhouses near Braidwood they are in every woodpile.

I’m not from canberra but live in melbourne and work as a meter reader.Theres not a day goes by i don’t see a gecko in the meter box.You’d more than likely have geckos living in your meter boxes as theirs plenty of insects and it’s warm.

Did you have a second crack at putting it on the BBQ?

It means you are not using enough poisonous insecticides as geckos prefer a healthy environment. I have numerous geckos (front and back yards) plus blue tongue lizard.
The guy next door has wall to fence concrete paving and is terrified of spiders. Just a matter of choice really.

I have a Gecko who lives outside my house. His name is Larry the Lizard. He’s been hanging around since I moved in a couple of months ago. Generally he hides under the stairs or behind the bins, but sometimes he crawls out onto the driveway. We do our best not to squish him, and he does his best to stay out of the way.

So to cut a short story even shorter, yes. I imagine its normal to see them around.

Some do live here in Canberra, I have a few in my garden as well and to my horror I recently found a half eaten one by my front door a couple of mornings ago. I’m suspecting my cat wasn’t hungry
