A 27-year-old Watson man will face court today (21 December) after a police vehicle was rammed by another vehicle yesterday.

According to ACT Policing, the man was on bail at the time of his arrest and will face eight additional criminal charges including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, drug driving, damaging a police vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision, using registration plates not properly issued for a vehicle, unlawful possession of stolen property and driving without ever having held a licence.

The man came to the attention of authorities at about 2:30 pm yesterday when police responded to reports a vehicle was erratically driving on Belconnen Way, Weetangera.

Shortly after, a police patrol located the vehicle idling in the driveway of a residence in Scullin and parked their vehicle across the driveway before attempting to speak with the man in the driver’s seat.

Police will allege that when confronted, the man fled the scene by reversing at speed down the driveway into the passenger side of the police vehicle while one officer was still inside.

During the incident, an officer attempted to deploy their taser but it did not connect successfully with the man.

The vehicle was located abandoned a short distance from the collision where the man was arrested hiding in nearby bushes.
