Radical lake plans everywhere

Nemo, this money’s coming from a different bucket. The Area around the lake is handled by the National Captial Authority – Federally funded. Infrastructure within suburbs is handled by the Legislative assembly – our beloved terrritory government.

The money would be better spent on badly needed infrastructure within suburbs. The area around the lake is fine as it is.

the idea will be a waste-land of deserted shops around Flynn Plaza. As a cafe spot it is way set back too far from the lake for a cuppucino. It will only work if it is part of the Convention Center.

As for closing the road: NO!!!!!! where will the V8s race once the Libs get back into power? seriously, it will make going for a drive around the lake un pleasurable and the access to the convention center will be compromised.

I want to know what they have against the Rev John Flynn. First the ACT govt. closes the school bearing his name, then the NCA removes his ‘place’. What next?

Section 1.1.6 of the Draft Amendment mentions a ‘High-Span Pedestrian Bridge’ being part of the proposal, but makes no mention of the Immigration Bridge (IB) proposal that was in the news last year.

Indeed, it specifically states that the high-span bridge is ‘yet-to-be designed’, whereas the IB is seemingly at an advanced stage of design.

We need to be careful we don’t continue to develop so much that we lose the open green space that many Canberrans live here for. There is a difference between real open green space and ‘planned common areas’. The ACT has managed to resist developing these areas so far, and the city is better for it. What about taking the lesser used or desirable parts of the lakefront and doing something with that?
