ACT Health is warning of a possible thunderstorm asthma event across the region this weekend due to weather activity and elevated pollen levels.
The event is considered rare but can result in severe asthma symptoms developing in a short period of time. The recent wet period combined with significant grass growth has increased the likelihood of a thunderstorm asthma event.
Asthma and hay fever sufferers are encouraged to be extra cautious over the weekend and closely monitor any worsening of their condition. Those who may have had asthma in the past are also urged to be extra vigilant and carry a reliever if possible.
Remaining indoors with closed windows and doors is the best way to minimise the risk of severe asthma symptoms.
If symptoms do develop, ACT Health suggests enacting an asthma action plan. If you experience asthma symptoms that are not relieved by usual asthma treatment, you should seek further urgent medical advice. In the event of a medical emergency, you should call 000.
