The ACT Government has issued a tender to find a private contractor to enliven, maintain and manage inner-city areas, as well as create and run events.
The agency responsible, the City Renewal Authority, says it’s identified places in the CBD, Braddon, Haig Park and Dickson will need services beyond what it, Transport Canberra, and City Services or other government agencies can provide.
The CRA has developed place plans for these locations following community consultation designed to create interesting, people-friendly places that encourage investment and where a range of creative and community events can be held.
It has now issued a tender for a contractor to help bring them to fruition and provide Place Management Services, defined as “curating, activating, and maintaining high-quality public places to foster public life, visitation, business activities and events, leading to increased wellbeing and economic outcomes for the City Renewal Precinct”.
Required is a multidisciplinary team skilled in event curation and management, stakeholder engagement, workplace health and safety, project management and placemaking.
The contractor will have to provide three dedicated Place Managers for Civic and Braddon, Dickson and Haig Park.
The greatest attention will be on Civic and Braddon on which more than half (57 per cent) of the budget will focus, with Dickson taking 29 per cent and Haig Park 14 per cent.
The contract will be funded partly through the CRA budget and the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy (CCMIL) on businesses.
The government has encouraged a development boom in the city and along Northbourne Avenue driven by light rail that is feeding inner city population growth and a need for services and recreation areas.
It hopes the CRA and its program of placemaking will deliver benefits to residents and businesses alike.
The tender closes on 10 February.
