Wine Burglary in Campbell

My wife and I returned from a short holiday the other night (2 Nov) to discover a note on our car windscreen that read: “Under your house was entered and your collection was taken. Phone police A.S.A.P”. Sure enough, someone had broken into our storage room/wine cellar and stolen our wine collection of about 80-90 bottles.

It’s not that the collection had any great monetary value, but many of the bottles had been collected over the years, as gifts for our wedding or for 21st birthdays, so there was a fair amount of sentimental value.

It is clear that someone knew the wine was there, and came prepared to steal it.

From the note, it is also clear that some kind soul with a conscience either witnessed the theft or heard about it and wanted to do the right thing.

If anyone reads this and has any further information please contact us here, or contact the ACT police. Many thanks!

I remember a few months ago when a mate of mine stumbled across a box or 2 of bottles (cheap red if i remember right) that had been dumped in one of the back streets around ainslie avenue, thought it was quite strange at the time, now thinking maybe a similar thing and whoever did it ditched the cheap, maybe some of yours will turn up in a similar fashion.

Then again, how well do you know your neighbours?

I’m going to jump to conclusion.

OP, the thief/ves is/are someone you already know.

‘hic!’ yum…

just kidding – yep, sounds like the thieves or an accessory left the note, so take this to the police for forensic testing. might yield an answer. might not. sorry to hear your loss – i’d hate to lose my small, but also sentimental little cellar’s worth.

1) for them to have broken in despite your car being outside they must have known you were away
2) how did the note leaver know what had been taken? (“Your collection has been taken”)
3)How did they know you were broken into, is the cellar door obvious from the street/other houses?

Sorry to destroy your view of human nature, but perhaps the note was a sarcastic joke from the thief? It’s just seems so strange that they didn’t call the police, even anonymously.

How did they know that only the wine was taken, unless they did it themselves?

Why didn’t they call the cops?

+1

the note is bizarre – why bother leaving it rather than calling the police. surely the OP would have noticed the theft very quickly (upon doing a quick check on their house on their return) and called the police anyway?!

Why didn’t they call the cops?
