A man has been handed 32 charges over an alleged crime spree – including assaulting a woman, damaging her property and ramming a police car – which he is accused of embarking on after only recently being released from prison.

Officers received reports of a “significant” incident of alleged violence on Friday (24 February), ACT Policing said.

When police tried to arrest a man alleged to be responsible in a Theodore carpark, he allegedly rammed a police vehicle, making it undrivable, then fled the scene.

The vehicle he is alleged to have been driving was found a short time later, as it had smashed into a light pole in Chisolm.

Officers then learned a man had allegedly entered a home and stolen a knife, then heard multiple reports of a man running through local backyards.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man when he was allegedly trying to steal a vehicle, and had to use their tasers during his capture.

The man, who had just recently been released from prison and was subject to a good behaviour order, was scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday (25 February).

His 32 charges include single counts of recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm, damaging a police vehicle and dangerous driving as well as two counts of burglary, theft and failing to stop motor vehicle for police, three counts of assault and six counts of damaging property.
