Worst election leaflet ever?

Could this be the worst attempt at an election leaflet ever?

I guess we shouldn’t complain. When Kerri Taranto ran (stood?) in the Federal seat of Fraser, she didn’t even have an email address or phone number published. She was uncontactable by any other way than snail mail.

So at least this time she has those bases covered. But don’t expect a website loaded with policy for her tilt at Molonglo.

We’ll have to be content to ponder the true meaning (and cost?) of her proposal for a “below-surface suburban rail network”.

Might as well discuss – it’ll be the only coverage she gets all campaign…

It’s actually a very cool leaflet.

You can get two fonts two ways (at least). One is to use two different manuals with different fonts.

Or enlarge a couple of lines on the photocopier, cut & paste (literally) and photocopy. Voila.

Folks wouldn’t be knocking this aesthetic if it was on a poster or music cover, or a programme for a fringe event.

iCanberran, only a matter of time before this thread gets flooded now with Open-Source zealots telling us Word isn’t the only word processor out there 🙂

I use Word as a general phrase for word processors. I prefer to use Open Office and Pages personally.

I like the way Ms Taranto’s policies are evolving. At the federal election she just wanted “a suburban railway in Canberra”. Now it’s a “below-surface” one. Wonder if next time round she will back an El.

Given the high nutjob quotient of both, it’s logical to assume it’s the same person.

If it’s the same woman who ran in the last Fed election, then she actually gave a pretty good speech at the formal declaration of results. I was shocked.

That thread is of the search for the elusive candidate during last year’s Federal election.

Yeah right tyler.
It was in my letterbox last night. Already someone else confirmed they got it too.
My bonafides are out there for all to see and confirm. Yours?

Al, I wasn’t suspecting that you had made it up, rather than some one with too much time whacking these up and distributing them. 😉

i rekkun this person is saving all their energy (or all there energy? all they’re energy??) for the job of government, rather than pesky campaigning. good on ’em.

and why does everyone assume a ‘below surface’ network is actually under ground? mebbe it is a natty and inventive way of merging a canal for boating with managing the city’s water crisis, set a few feet below the level of the ground..?

pity the author can’t spell ‘kerry’, but… ; )

Why build a subway?
To connect all the secret passages under the city and Triangle 🙂

Nah – can’t be done on a typewriter as there are 2 font sizes (as I said above). It is either a daisywheel printer with multiple font sizes or a gee up with a modern computer / printer.

The real reason I’m posting though is what does “The implementation of planning a below surface suburban rail network” mean?

Does it mean start the planning phase of a subway between that goes around Weston Creek? Certainly doesn’t sound like she wants the system to go round the town centres.

why would you build an underground in canberra anyway? considering the number of faults, (earthquake) it would be a recipe for disaster. and how deep is the water aquifer here, anyway?

I personally enjoy sunlight and trees….

I was home when this lady came doorknocking, she’s definitely for real. She personally handed me one of these leaflets. She seemed very sincere, although a little eccentric, hence the leaflet!

Gawd – that’s OLD SKOOL!

I don’t think it was a typewriter that was used. I think it was an old daisywheel printer, probably attached to a Commodore 64 (or a Vic 20).

No hold on, it has 2 seperate sized fonts so it was intentionally done to look stupid…

Ptooey – I was hoping someone was using retro gear this election too (I have no idea why – I was just hoping OK!).

not a daisywheel then??

maybe a fujitsu or oki dot matrix….

probably an amiga.

how much retro can you get?

at least it saves on printing costs…

Whoever owns it and sirtibutes it, I doubt if it would pass muster under ACT’s Electoral Act 1992, specifically section 4 and division 17.3

Linky to fact sheet

Real or not, doing something that looks so different to ‘normal’ is a fantastic way to grab attention. The other flyers are all so sterile they kinda make you want to vomit with boredom.

And by ‘wierd’ I of course mean ‘weird’.

With regards the wierd email address, the Gordini Triumph is actually a ski goggle.

I smell a wind-up by a kid with a typewriter. Good on you.

You won’t get through on that number. Ron Radford has it permanently tied up. He keeps upping the NGA’s bid for the original of the brochure. Last I heard the offer was up in the vicinity of Blue Poles and A Bigger Grand Canyon put together.

Does this woman even exist?
(And is that phone number connected, so we can get a comment out of her?)

@tylers, the leaflet is clearly a joke. The only bone of contention is whether the gag was intentional.

Moreover, right or wrong, election leaflets are exempt from “no junk mail” type restrictions.

I smell a fake/setup here! I guess worthwhile to try and make a story – but not if it’s bulls**t.

Regardless, election leaflets give me the s**ts. It’s ignoring my “no junk mail” sign, it’s wasting paper/environment, and it’s also using taxpayer money (in many cases) to promote themselves.

I think you’ll find it is a wind-up.

Really, her typewriter prepared leaflet and the quality of the ACT Legislative Assembly aren’t that far removed.

Isn’t Hettinger that yank?

That’s gold. I’m gonna vote for her for sure, and next time I will run myself.

I thought Mad Mike was a rocket scientist and fighter pilot. Verging on a space cadet.

I believe so.

Last time we got Mike Hettinger’s leaflet that said “I am a nuclear physicist!”

– is he standing this time?

She wants a sub-way? So will she speak at the forthcoming ACT Light Rail meeting?

Holden Caulfield9:47 pm 18 Sep 08

Haha, that is fantastic! Only to be topped (pardon the pun) by Ivan Milat’s sister/cousin/whoever she was giving her well considered views on euthanasia in the lead up to last year’s federal election.

Open Office is just like Word – it sucks just as much, but in slightly different ways. I really don’t actually get the open source projects that denigrate Microsoft projects and then try to be just like them.

There, you went and got me started again …

:sigh:

What an idiot, no excuse for such ugly and unprofessional material now. Five year olds using Word can put out better.

Yeah, except the spelling would probably be worse.

Mind you, what on earth is “gordinitriumph” supposed to mean? Was “ktaranto” not available so she picked a random mess of letters?

At least there having a go.

But so we really need (or want) an underground rail network? Where is it going to go?

so she is not a green candidate? humm, hard to tell the difference

I think I have heard a figure thrown around that even a small subway system in Canberra would cost a couple of billion dollars. It’s good that Kerri’s doing her bit by promoting that, using minimal printing costs. Saving it for building the tunnels, no doubt.

Underground rail network!! Sounds expensive…

Bless

strangely enough I saw this post just after my flatmate allowed one of these pamphlets in the house much to the amusement of both of us. I was left wondering is it legal? I thought election material needed to have whom it was authorised by and where it was printed (woden library photocopiers by the looks)

Is that prepared on a typewriter?! The sentences are out of alignment with each other. Quaint. So many of the indies are delusional nutters, including most of the independents who have been elected since self-government. Maybe the nomination fee should be increased more to deter these timewasters who clutter up the ballot paper.
