The forthcoming election has brought our burgh to the attention of The Poll Bludger, with a post containing an interesting historical summary of the political landscape here since self-government. According to the site, “Posts on each of three electorates will follow over the coming weeks.”.

The ABC’s tame psephologist Antony Green has also pulled together a comprehensive election summary here, starting with detail of the 2004 results and the changes since. Look for comment on his blog as the annointed date approaches.

one candidate dropped out so there are 5 now. this has already been done to death here.

One thing Antony Green pointed out (but I may have misinterpretted) was that the Ginninderra electorate has six ACT Labor candidates standing for five seats.

This year we have Hare Clarke rules (more candidates than seats means that you have to split them into groupings of no greater than however many seats there are) meaning there will be two ACT Labor columns, combined with Robson rotation, (where names are rotated only within their own groupings).

This could possibly give a potential for slight advantage, in that whoever you choose as your ‘extra’ candidate to be isolated into the “Spare Candidate” column could remain in the same place across -all- vote papers, instead of suffering from Robson Rotation the way every other party does.

So who gets to be the designated spare?
